THP receives two K-9 donations
Apr 7, 2015
The Tennessee Highway Patrol just gained two new four-legged members.
Nashville K-9 LLC, a dog-training company, donated two trained police K-9 dogs, Duke and Pito, to THP.
Duke is a trained Dutch Shepherd and Pito is a trained German Shepherd.
Both K-9s will be assigned to a state trooper and will undergo 10 weeks of certification training beginning in June.
Head K-9 trainer Sgt. Karen Douglas will oversee training for both dogs and handlers. Once certified, the teams will be assigned to state highways. The total value of both dogs exceeds $30,000.
Nashville K-9 donates one to two dogs each year to a different Tennessee municipality at no cost to state taxpayers as a way to give back to the community.
Last June, Williamson County Sheriff’s Office welcomed to the force a new deputy, Ammo, courtesy of Nashville K-9.
